About 26 miles north of Kailua-Kona along Queen Kaahumanu Hwy, south of the Kohala resort area, is Anaehoomalu Bay Beach, or just A-Bay. Situated directly in front of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort and Spa, is Anaehoomalu Beach itself. Anaehoomalu Beach is adorned with granular, golden and grayish sand and two beautiful fishponds. Coconut palms dot the paths between the ocean and the fish ponds. They are a treat to walk through and they offer some of the most beautiful sunsets in Hawaii.

The two lovely fish ponds border the beach to the north and south. The Kahapapa Fish Pond to the north has tide pools. The beach is protected by an outer reef making this spot very popular for ocean activities such as snorkeling, diving, kayaking, and windsurfing. There are often sightings of sea turtles resting in the sand along Anaehoomalu Beach.

There are concessions at the north end of Anaehoomalu Beach to supply the items needed for any beach activities you may have interest in. Facilities include restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and plenty of parking. If you are into exploring, nearby is the Mamalahoa Petroglyph Trail, a hike leading through the lava fields to some of the best Hawaiian petroglyphs. The trial is located near the parking lot.

"Great beach to visit if you’re staying in Waikoloa!"
Reviewed April 9, 2014
Great beach to visit if you’re staying in Waikoloa. There’s good snorkeling because the waves are kinda flat but there’s a lot of sand unless you go into the rocky sections to the south. This must be a popular beach because there were always boats offshore with people coming and going. I guess it’s no wonder since the resorts are so close by. We particularly enjoyed the scenery with all the coconut trees on the beach and the many walking paths that are there to explore. We’ve stayed in Waikoloa twice now and this is one of our favorite beaches.
