Just 5 miles north of Lihue airport at the southern tip of the Wailua River mouth is Lydgate Beach Park. This beach park is worth a visit if you have kids or just want a calm serene snorkel experience.
A protective reef forms a swimming lagoon. Two man made boulder enclosed ponds with sand make it ideal for kids and snorkeling. There is also a lifeguard, playgrounds, soccer fields, bicycle, and walking paths at Lydgate Beach. It is a complete park, you can even fly kites here the grassy area is so large.Ratings & Reviews

This beach is closed of to the ocean. It's pretty much a warm sea pool, fantastic for the wee ones :) there is also great snorkeling for those inexperienced snorkelers and children.

"It can get pretty windy here, must be good for kiting"

This is great beach to spend some the day if you’re staying in Kapaa. The kids had a blast in the two lava made pools at the park by the lifeguard stand. The water was perfectly calm and safe. The park is huge and has so much greenery. There are walking and jogging trails every which way. Kauai really did a good job on preserving the natural beauty at this park. The park is huge and has so much greenery. If you walk along the path a ways you can find your very own private picnic table. The only down side is that it can be pretty windy on those stronger wind days.
