Poipu Beach is the main beach fronting Poipu Beach Park. It has two crescent-shaped lagoons protected by a shallow outer reef. The crystal-clear waters in Poipu make this spot excellent for snorkeling and swimming. It is a safe place for beginners and children as well. Between the two lagoons there is a sandbar that reaches out to the sea. It thins in the middle, almost disappearing, creating what appears to be a separate, sandy, little island in the middle of the lagoons, with its own tide pools and lava.
If you want more action, the body boarding and surfing are great out toward the point on the western end of Poipu Beach. Backing the beach is a large grassy lawn studded with palm trees, so it's a great place for a picnic, or just to hang out. There are restrooms and lifeguards. If you need to stock up on any supplies or rental gear, there are shops across the street, and there is always plenty of parking.
Poipu Beach is a wonderful beach park and will keep you entertained all day. You may never want to leave. Itís no wonder it is consistently named one of the best beaches in Hawaii.
