Located directly north of the Kahului Airport is Kanaha Beach Park. It is actually within walking distance of the airport terminal. The east end of the beach is where the actual beach park, with all the facilities is, so if you’re looking to spend some time relaxing, this is where you want to hang out. Kanaha Beach Park is a 40-acre county park with infinite amounts of green grass and shade. There are picnic tables, restroom, volleyball courts, barbeques, and freshwater showers.
Kanaha Beach Park is fronted at the ocean by a long golden strip of sun-bleached sand. The park consists of several different beach sites, all of which are quite popular for wind sports. Windsurfers use their designated area near the park, east of the campground area. Kite boarders are restricted to the west side of the campground area. The lifeguard tower stands between the two at the shoreline. This western section of Kanaha Beach is known as "Kite Beach".
The section by the campground is known as “Old Man’s Beach” and is a good place for beginner kite-boarders or maybe a kiteboarding lesson. “Naish Beach” at the west end of Kite Beach is more for advanced riders. There’s another section of Kite Beach at the very west end of Kanaha Beach, across the water canal, called “Action Beach”. Kiters and windsurfers are forbidden to launch before 11am, because beach usage rights go to the fisherman until then.
